Welding standard

EN ISO 14732

EN ISO 14732 is the standard for qualifying operators of mechanised and automated welding equipment - cobots, industrial robots, laser systems and welding automats. It is required when a company welds structures to EN 1090 or EN 15085 using a cobot. WELDERSTAL runs EN ISO 14732 training and exams.

What is EN ISO 14732?

EN ISO 14732 is a standard that sets out the rules for qualifying operators of mechanised and automated welding equipment. It covers operators of welding robots, cobots, CNC laser systems and other automated equipment.

Unlike EN ISO 9606 (manual welders), EN ISO 14732 does not require welds to be made by hand - what matters is the ability to control the automated process.

Scope of qualification

  • Welding robot operator - programming, process supervision
  • Cobot operator - configuration, path teaching, parameter control
  • Laser welder operator - system operation, parameter setting
  • CNC system operator - automated welding cells

Required competences

  • Knowledge of the equipment - design and operating principle of the welding equipment
  • Welding procedures - understanding the WPS and process parameters
  • Quality control - recognising weld defects, correcting parameters
  • Safety - procedures for safe work with robots and lasers
  • Documentation - keeping records of the welding process

Application

  • Welding cobots - automated MIG/MAG, TIG and laser welding
  • Laser systems - handheld laser welders with automated guidance
  • Compliance with standards - required by EN ISO 3834, EN 1090, EN 15085
  • Quality audits - a condition for plant certification

Benefits of certification

  • Raising competence - confirmation of operator skills
  • A requirement in automation - necessary for every cobot or robot deployment
  • A foundation for audits - documentation of personnel qualifications
  • Developing robotic departments - building a team with the right qualifications
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is EN ISO 14732?
EN ISO 14732 is the standard for qualifying operators of mechanised and automated welding equipment - robots, cobots, laser systems and welding automats.
How does EN ISO 14732 differ from EN ISO 9606?
EN ISO 9606 applies to manual welders (MIG/MAG, TIG), while EN ISO 14732 qualifies operators of welding machines - cobots, industrial robots and automated systems. Different skills, a different exam.
Does a cobot operator need an EN ISO 14732 certificate?
Yes, if the company welds structures to EN 1090 or EN 15085. These standards require operators of welding cobots to hold qualifications to EN ISO 14732.
