Laser Welder Training
A course in operating a handheld laser welder (process 521) ending with a qualification exam. Theory, practice on a real cell and health and safety for laser work - for welders extending their qualifications and people starting work with a laser.
What is laser welding (process 521)
Laser welding is process 521 according to PN-EN ISO 4063 - joining metals with a concentrated laser beam. It gives clean, neat welds with a small heat-affected zone, especially on thin sheet. Operating a handheld laser welder is usually easier to master than TIG, but it requires knowledge of the technology, parameter selection and the health and safety rules for working with a class 4 laser.
In the training we teach practical work at the cell and prepare you for the qualification exam. For the equipment side, see our laser welder for metal and aluminium.
Who the training is for
- Welders who want to extend their qualifications to laser technology
- Operators of cells with a handheld laser welder
- Companies introducing laser welding into production
- People starting work in laser welding
Training scope
- Design and operating principle of a (fibre) laser welder
- Parameter selection: power, speed, shielding gas, focal length
- Working with the handheld torch and modes (continuous, spot, wobble)
- Welding steel, stainless steel and aluminium - hands-on sessions
- Joint preparation and making test welds
- Organising the exam with a certification body
Programme - theory and practice
- Theory - LBW technology (process 521), materials, health and safety
- Practice - welding on a real cell
- Selecting and saving process parameters
- Making test pieces for assessment
- Theory and practical exam
Laser safety (health and safety)
- Class 4 laser - a separated and marked work zone
- Eye protection - glasses/goggles matched to the source wavelength
- Skin protection and welding fume extraction
- Procedures for safe work and operation of the equipment
Certificates and standards
PN-EN ISO 9606
Handheld laser welding
PN-EN ISO 14732
Mechanised welding / operators
The choice of standard depends on the degree of mechanisation: manual welding → EN ISO 9606, mechanised/automated welding → EN ISO 14732.
