Fairino FR cobot arms - the base of WS kits

Every Welderstal WS cobot is built on a proven Fairino FR cobot arm - from the FR3 to the FR30. Here you can see the base models and their parameters, and clicking a model takes you to the ready-to-work WS cobot.

A cobot arm on its own is only a technical base. You buy a ready-made cell as a Welderstal WS kit - a deployment with tool, equipment, plugins, configuration, training and support.

How a Fairino FR cobot arm differs from a Welderstal WS kit

This page shows the Fairino FR cobot arms - the arm alone, i.e. the technical base. A ready-made cell comes into being only as a WS cobot, when the arm is joined by a tool, equipment, configuration, safety, training and support.

The parameters are data for the Fairino FR arm alone. We make the final selection of the model for a WS cobot after analysing the process, tool, fixturing, pace and safety requirements.

Indicative net prices for the cobot arm only (without equipment, tool, deployment and transport) - they do not constitute an offer within the meaning of Art. 66 of the Polish Civil Code. The Welderstal WS kit is quoted individually after a process analysis.

What cobot arm data means

Before you compare models, it is worth knowing what the datasheet parameters really mean. This helps you avoid the most common mistake - choosing an arm by the part weight alone, without the tool and extension.

Payload

The maximum mass at the arm flange - including the tool (torch, gripper, sensor), not just the part. Nominal and maximum payload are given, and the actual value depends on extension (payload–reach curve).

Reach

The distance from the base to the farthest working point. It decides how large an area the arm covers without repositioning the part and whether it reaches all points at the right angle.

Repeatability

How precisely the arm returns to the same point in a repeated move (e.g. ±0.02 mm). In repeatable tasks it matters more than absolute accuracy.

Number of axes (6)

6 rotary axes let you position the tool at almost any angle - important for welds, access to the part and difficult geometries.

TCP speed

The maximum speed of the tool centre point. It affects cycle time, but the real speed depends on the process and safety requirements.

IP rating

Resistance to dust and moisture. The FR series is IP54, optionally IP65 - important in dusty and humid workshops and during welding.

Mounting and base

The arm can be mounted on the floor, wall or ceiling. A small footprint makes integration easier in a tight cell without rebuilding it.

Payload–reach curve

The arm usually holds its full payload at a shorter extension. At maximum reach the permissible mass of tool plus part may be lower - which is why we select for the specific task.

How to match an FR model to the task

A model is not chosen by its name. The order is the reverse: first the tool and the task, then mass and reach, and finally a specific FR model as the base of the WS cobot.

1

Start with the tool

First define the working tool: torch with equipment, gripper, suction cup, sensor. It determines the rest of the selection.

2

Calculate the total mass

The payload must cover tool + part + cables, with a margin. That is why a 3 kg task often gets an arm with a higher payload.

3

Define the working reach

Measure the farthest and nearest working points and the angles at which the tool has to approach the part.

4

Check space and mounting

Footprint, operator access, wall or ceiling mounting options and possible collisions with the surroundings.

5

Match repeatability and environment

The higher the quality requirements, the more repeatability matters. Dust and moisture decide the IP rating.

In the end it is the whole WS cobot that counts - which is why we confirm the model selection after a process analysis, not from the parameter table alone.

What the bare Fairino FR arm can do

These are the capabilities of the base alone - programming, communication and safety. A WS cobot adds the tool, plugins that simplify operation and a full deployment.

Programming and control

10.1" touch panel or WebApp from a computer or tablet, hand-guided programming and SDKs: Python, C++, C#, Java, ROS and ROS 2.

Communication and integration

Modbus TCP/RTU, TCP/IP and digital inputs/outputs, and with an expansion card also Profinet, EtherNet/IP and CC-Link. EtherCAT architecture internally.

Safety and standards

A collaborative arm with joint sensors, force limiting and emergency stop. CE certificate, compliance with ISO 10218-1 and ISO/TS 15066, IP54 (IP65 option). Whether guarding is needed is decided by the cell assessment.

Data on the Fairino FR arm is for information only (source: Fairino materials). Welderstal is a Fairino cobot distributor and integrates them into WS cobots and ready-made kits.

Frequently asked questions about Fairino FR cobot arms

What is a cobot, i.e. a collaborative arm? +

A cobot is a robot designed to work alongside people. It has sensors in its joints and force limiting, so it stops moving on contact. The arm alone is a technical base - a cell comes into being only with a tool, equipment and configuration.

Can I buy a bare FR arm without the whole kit? +

We advise in the form of a Welderstal WS kit, because an arm on its own does not do any work without a tool, configuration and a safety assessment. We match the scope of the kit - from full deployment to narrower integration - after a process description.

How many axes does an FR arm have and what does that give? +

FR models have 6 rotary axes. This lets you position the tool at almost any angle and reach difficult spots - important when welding seams with complex geometry and when handling parts.

How is a Fairino FR arm programmed? +

Programming is done via the 10.1" touch panel or the WebApp from a computer or tablet, and also by hand guiding (the operator shows the path). For integration there are SDKs in Python, C++, C#, Java, plus ROS and ROS 2.

Which communication protocols does the FR support? +

As standard Modbus TCP/RTU, TCP/IP and digital inputs/outputs. With an expansion card, Profinet, EtherNet/IP and CC-Link are added. This makes integration with the welding power source, PLC and the rest of the line easier.

Is the FR arm safe and which certificates does it have? +

The FR series are collaborative arms with joint sensors, force limiting and emergency stop, with a CE certificate and compliance with ISO 10218-1 and ISO/TS 15066. The protection rating is IP54 (IP65 optional). Whether the cell can work without guarding is determined after assessing the whole cell.

What is the difference between nominal and maximum payload? +

Nominal payload is the safe mass for typical work and maximum is the upper limit. In addition, full payload is usually held at a shorter extension - at maximum reach the permissible mass may be lower (payload–reach curve). Remember that the tool also counts towards the mass.

How does an FR arm differ from a Welderstal WS kit? +

The FR is the cobot arm alone - a technical base. A WS cobot is a commissioned cell built on that base: FR model selection, tool, equipment, Welderstal plugins, configuration, safety assessment, commissioning, training and support after start-up.
